Abstract

The Arabic Language course plays a crucial role for students of the Da'wah Management (MD) and Islamic Broadcasting Communication (KPI) Departments at UIN Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto. This research aims to analyze the specific needs of students regarding Arabic course materials and evaluation methods for curriculum development purposes. The method used is descriptive quantitative with a data triangulation approach, involving 100 students and three lecturers through questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. The results indicate a significant gap between the existing Semester Learning Plan (RPS) and the actual needs of students. The primary needs of students are comprehensive materials focused on communication skills (muhadasah and fahmul istima'), detailed explanations of vocabulary, exercises (tadribat), and grammar (qawaid). Regarding evaluation, students strongly require information on detailed assessment criteria (rubrics) specifically designed for each language skill (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). Institutionally, it was found that the delivery of material is still based on the lecturer's personal understanding, exacerbated by the absence of a continuous training program from the university. This study recommends a comprehensive revision of the RPS to focus on communicative skills and to include transparent and specific assessment rubrics to bridge the gap in competencies and the diverse academic backgrounds of the students.
